West Bengal is a treasure house of many significant agricultural
and horticultural products. Keeping this in view and realising
the enormous investment potential of the fruits and vegetables
processing industry in the state, the State Government has set
up five Agri Export Zones across the state for its key products:
Pineapple, Lychee, Mango, Potato and Vegetables. These zones are
West Bengal’s latest venture for mutually rewarding business
relationships.
What does an Agri-Export Zone offer?
• These zones by identifying the potential products and the
geographical region in which they are grown, adopt an end-to-end
approach of integrating the complete process right from the
stage of production, then processing, packaging and finally
leading to export.
• These zones add value to basic agricultural produce by
improving the product quality, and packaging is another area
that comes under the purview of these zones.
