The flower market is expanding very fast. West Bengal
can reap a huge market share in this trade.

As rightly projected by Mckinsey, West Bengal with excellent logistics, research and extension support infrastructure in the floriculture trade could take advantage of capturing the niche export markets like Japan, USA and Europe.

 • Points to be noted on Global Trade in Floriculture:

 • Global Trade in Floriculture is significant.

 • Rose is the main flower in demand and is the main export item world over in floriculture trade.

 • In Europe, supermarkets have gained a significant share of floriculture retail. This provides a consolidated market for exporters. These supermarkets are now exploring long-term direct sourcing arrangements with producers to reduce variability in costs. This gives a clear indication of the advantage, West Bengal could take, to serve the European markets
