The Ministry of Food Processing Industries had been
operating several Plan schemes for the development of
processed food sector in the country, focusing on different
segments of the food processing industry.
It has got six schemes, under which it provides assistance.
1.
Scheme for Technology Upgradation/
Establishment/ Modernization of Food Processing
Industries.
The scheme will cover the following activities:
-
Setting up / expansion/ modernization of food processing
industries covering all segments viz. fruits and
vegetables, milk products, meat, poultry, fishery, cereal,
pulses, oil seeds and other Agri-horticultural sectors
leading to value addition and shelf life enhancement
including food flavours and colours, oleoresins, spices,
coconut, mushroom, etc.

Modernization of pulse milling unit-installation of driers
and dust control system

Setting up of mini pulse processing unit
2.
Scheme for Human Resource Development
The scheme will cover the following components:

Setting up of Food Processing & Training Centre (FPTC)
-
Creation of infrastructure facilities for running Degree/
Diploma Courses & Training Programmes for Food Processing
-
Training Programs sponsored by Ministry of Food Processing
Industries
-
Entrepreneurship Development Programme
3.
Schemes for Quality Assurance, Codex Standards, and
Research & Development
The scheme will cover the following components:

Total Quality Management
-
Promotion of Quality Assurance and Safety Concept
-
Strengthening of Codex Cell
-
Setting Up of Quality Control Laboratory
-
Research & Development in Processed Food Sector
4. Scheme for Strengthening of Nodal Agencies
This scheme is provided with the objective to strengthen the
State level Nodal Agencies for food processing industries,
designated by the State Government, by providing financial
support for installation of basic office hardware including
computer system and internet for collection of detailed
field information, preparation of data base, monitoring of
assisted projects, coordination of agro food business etc.
5. Scheme for Backward and Forward Integration and
other Promotional Activities
In this scheme, the following activities will be
covered:

Backward Linkage.

Forward Integration.
-
Generic Advertisement (To be operated by only the
Ministry).
-
Promotional Activities such as participation in
exhibition/fairs, supporting
seminars/workshops/conferences etc. and studies and
surveys.

Preparation of short duration films and material for
different meetings, dissemination of information and
bringing of publications (To be operated by only the
Ministry).
-
Strengthening of F&VP Directorate.
-
Strengthening of Industry Associations.
-
Food
Fortification.
6. Scheme for Infrastructure Development
In this scheme, assistance is given for developing
infrastructure facilities such as Food Parks, Packaging
Centers, Modernised Abattoirs, Integrated Cold Chain
Facilities, Value added Centre and Irradiation Facilities.
